Not much to say here. Shot 72. Sure it is more respectable then my 79, but doesn’t feel much better. I kinda stumbled coming in. I was two under on the front side and just ran out of steam on the back and shot 38. Even in poor tournaments I learn a lot though. It actually gives me more to look at when evaluating my play. It allows me to see bigger things to work on that otherwise may be subtle when I am playing well. I can’t wait for this summer and to play more consistently and really see what I can do.
Day 2 at Forrest Lake
March 9th, 2008Forest Lake 2 Day. Not a good start.
March 8th, 2008For the first round of the Forest Lake 2 day event I shot a 79. I was putting pretty poorly and made 4 bogeys from the fairway. It was a long day with an excruciating round that lasted all of 5 hours. Brutal. I had an early start the next day and birdied one and seven and eagled 8 to go two under through nine holes. Unable to continue the progress, I shot 38 on the back and finished at level par.
For those of you who keep up with current happenings with my game you should know that I dropped the “claw” for the remainder of my time down here. The stroke is too smooth for these greens which are thick and roll an 8 at best. I putted with a conventional grip my second round and I think it makes for a better marriage on these greens.
The 79 was bad, but my games feels generally good and I should stay positive through these next events. I will have four events over the next five days.
Windy at Windermere
March 5th, 2008
Today I shot 72 for my first event on this trip. Normally I would be fine with this considering a bunch of little factors:
1. First event of this trip
2. Had never seen the course before
3. Winds were a constant 15 mph with stronger gusts
But on the tenth hole I had to call a penalty on myself for moving my ball. There was a long twig of some sort near my ball and when I moved it the ball happen to roll over. I proceeded to play the ball as it lied and got up and down. What would have been a birdie was really a bogey. Had I slowed down and thought about what I did I could have moved it back and only recieved a one shot penalty. After all that I birdied 11, followed by an eagle on the par five 15th and a birdie on 16. So I made a pretty good run to make up some ground.
Part of the reason I am down here is to train. So when I am faced with a situation like today I can only tell myself that crap happens and to look at everything as a learning experience.
My brother in law will appreciate this link more than most, but I thought of this when it was all said and done.
Back in Central Florida
March 4th, 2008Well I am back to 80 degree days and all the golf I can handle. This trip will last from now until the 18th of March. In that time I will play in 6 tournaments, go to Busch Gardens with my wife and watch a great friend of mine get married. This is going to be a great couple of weeks. I will be updating this site after every round and give a breif recap of how it went.
March Calendar is done.
February 21st, 2008One Day event @ Deer Run
February 9th, 2008Shot 76 and finished somewhere down the list. The front side was horrendous. I was 5 over par for 3 holes. I hit my tee shots on those three holes either on or slightly off the intended line and they either ended up OB or in a hazard. I didn’t know the course very well and should have played a practice round. It was hard to keep it together and honestly I just wanted quit. After I got over the triple on #8 I struggled to shoot even on the back in an attempt to save a little face.
Forrest Lake, Day 2
February 7th, 2008Conditions were the same as yesterday with a lot of wind and on and off rain. I managed to shoot 70 today for a 142 total. That was good enough for tied for third place. My putting was still a little stale, but my attitude was good. Over all I finished well and made my first check in ‘08 for $750.00. I have another tournament tomorrow. Hopefully it will go as well or better.
Forrest Lake, Day 1
February 7th, 2008Today was the first round of a 2 day tournament at Forrest Lake. I shot 72 and when I left I was four shots off the lead. It was a tough day. The wind gusted up to 20 mph. and had a little bit of rain. I was striking the ball nicely just not converting when I hit the ball close. I had 3 biridies and two 3 putt bogeys. With one unconverted up/down I remained at level par. I worked my short putts after the round and I am hoping for a better putting day tomorrow.
Eyes Hurt
February 6th, 2008This post is really just practice. I know no one is reading this yet, but for some reason I am putting myself through hell trying to get it up to speed. My eyes will start pulsating and my vision becomes blured. I guess if I knew anything about code before this would have helped.
Bridgewater 1 Day
February 5th, 2008Well… this is the first post that people (golfers) hate to write. So I will make it quick and painless (for me not you).
Shot 80 at Bridgewater. Not one up and down. Not one birdie…. end of post.
